Preparedness – It’s a Day at the Beach!

OK. You got me. Maybe the title was a little misleading, but some of the same things you would do to prepare for a family outing to the shore are the same things you need “2 Bee Ready”.

 

Think about it for a second. When you are headed out for some fun in the sun you might pack sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat, water, snacks, blanket, towels, sunglasses, radio, games for the kids, cash for the beachside snack-bar, etc… These are all familiar items to families who have built emergency kits. Many times in crisis or disasters you will be forced to spend more time outside in the elements than just a day at the beach.

 

So imagine for a minute what you would pack to take the family to the beach for a few days. Now imagine no beachside resort to retreat to after a day in the surf, but some simple beach camping. What would you pack for that type of family adventure? The things you are thinking of are very much the foundation of the supplies you need to have in the event of a crisis.

 

When you are thinking about preparedness, think in real terms. How does my family prepare to do activities? What supplies do we rely on to make an outing a success? Preparing for a “zombie apocalypse” or a day at the beach is more similar than you might think at first blush.

 

I hope this gives you a new perspective on preparedness. If you really think about it most of us are always planning for something – family picnics, road trip vacations or a day at the beach.
